A local businessman who has inspired and motivated others was honored Wednesday night.
Patrick Haley, founder and CEO of BridgePath Scientific and Advanced Products Enterprises, was honored by the Business Development Advisory Council.
Haley, along with several local businesses, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the county’s economy at a reception at Martin’s in the Walkersville Fire Hall.
Laurie Boyer, director of the county’s Office of Economic Development, said that Haley began his business in the Frederick Innovative Technology Center Inc., an incubator designed to nurture start-up companies.
Haley’s firm assists private- and publicly-funded researchers and companies with preclinical development of pharmaceuticals, vaccines and research tools.
His firm was one of two to receive funding through the Fort Detrick Technology Transfer Initiative.
Boyer said Haley was an integral part of establishing the technology incubator, helped the county determine strategic priorities and provided essential input on its marketing campaign.
Haley is a past chairman of the Business Development Advisory Council and also is active in the Technology Council of Maryland, Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley and the Suburban Frederick Kiwanis Club.
A former chairman of the board of FITCI, Haley is president of the Frederick Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.
David Bufter, treasurer and executive vice president of SAIC-Frederick, praised the efforts of the local business community in improving quality of life.
“The ‘Frederick’ part of our name is the secret sauce, so to speak, that makes us special,” Bufter said. “We all work together, the city, county, chamber, FITCI, and what is sometimes overlooked, the vibrant arts community, that makes Frederick a great place to do business and raise a family.”
Bufter, who serves on the Business Development Advisory Council, is immediate past chairman of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce and serves on a number of other business and civic organization boards.
Honored at the reception were Wright Manufacturing, SA Biosciences, Orases Consulting Corp. and Linganore Winecellars-Berrywine Plantations.
Mike Dailey, executive director of FITCI, and George Cox, vice chairman of the FITCI board, presented certificates to companies which have developed through the incubation process, including BridgePath Scientific and Advanced Products Enterprises, HSRL Pathology, Imagilin Technology, Integrated BioTherapeutics, Cybrdi Inc. and Chromo Trax.
